bit of damp

Hi

After a bit of advice please.
Recent caravan service indicated damp readings of 20% at back end top corners.
Engineer suggested might be seals on the roof.
There is a rail/bar thing (sorry not sure of proper term!) about a foot in from the back that goes across the roof & the seals do look a bit shabby. Would this be an easy thing to do ourselves, I assume take of rail/bar thingy clean it up re-seal & stick it back on?
Also would we need to do anything internally at that level?

Hoping you are all better informed than me!!!

Old n basic adria to old and plush bucaneer

Hi All

I've just upgraded my old, tired and damp(ish) Adria Optima 6 berth to a mid 90's Buccaneer Caribbean. I collect it next Sunday.

I'm just wondering if there are things that I should look for with the hot water & heating system? My Adria didn't have hot water, and the fire packed in years ago. The vendor assures me that everything works, although there is never a guarantee when buying used.

It is dry inside, I've had a very good look round and couldn't see any signs. It' a "boat roof" design, but I'm not too worried as Buccaneer have a reputation for build quality.

I'm also wondering about getting a cover for it as I keep it on my drive, however i'm a little concerned about condensation building up on the inside between the van and the cover.

So, if anyone has any advice, I'd be very grateful. I'm a single mum on a budget, so would possibly be looking to do any repairs myself (with help from friends who are better at DIY than me).

Thanks in advance

Bexster

Foam filled jockey wheels?

I am being driven nuts by pnuematic jockey wheels going flat and wonder
if anyone has tried the foam filled type as an alternative?

The one I am looking at, has a similar sized tyre to my pnuematic one,
but has a plastic centre/ hub with roller bearings. Are the plastic
ones strong enough?

Warranty - who is meant to protect

I want to raise the issue of warranty because as far as I can see it appears a very tortuous and biased system. Tortuous because everything has to go back to the manufacturer and sometimes takes weeks to resolve and biased because they have the last say on whether an item is covered under warranty or not.

I have a Coachman Vision and in March when I came to change the battery out, to keep the alarm going whilst in storage, I noticed the battery box had split from front to back. I've been into the battery box about 6 times in the three years I have owned the van and I do not believe the damage is down to me. I submitted a claim to Coachman who, in there wisdom say it is not a warranty claim.

I have no say in the matter and there word is final, they did indicate they thought that it had been damaged which pointed the finger at me. I've had a quote and I could be over £400 out of pocket!

I just wondered how many others are having this sort of problem, and whether Coachman in particular, have a reputation for this sort of approach.

1st time camping requirements

Hello,

I'm thinking of going camping for the first time this year, with my
children. Is there a list of what I need to buy or borrow?

A tent, a sleeping bag...

Something to cook on or do you eat out?

Chairs and a table if you are "eating in"

A torch or other light for at night

Do you tend to take water to the tent or do you use the camp site
facilities for tooth brushing, washing-up, etc?

What else?

Thanks,
Stephen.

2004 Lunar Quasar Bunk Beds

Hi,
We've just got a Lunar Quasar 524 2004 (It's our first caravan). Hoping someone can help me out with some info on the bunk beds please. I was able to convert the dinette into the bunk beds, but just wondering if there are supposed to be some kind of side guards fo the top bunk to stop you rolling out? There are some white metal rail things in a cupboard that look like they might be for that, but wasn't obvious how they might go on. The lunar handbook that came with it doesn't mention the beds. Are there any owners / former owners that could enlighten me please.

Leisure battery flat

Now proud owner of a proper campervan, but I think I may have killed
the leisure battery by letting it run flat. I thought they were meant
to be able to tolerate that sort of thing, but now I'm not so sure.

The present one is rated at 75AH which seems a bit small for a vehicle
with a fridge and likely to have very little time with a mains
connection.

I have now got a 6W solar 'battery conditioner' but it
seems to be too late for this battery.

Any advice would be most welcome!

Water Pump Problems

$

Hi,
We just had our first outing in our 2004 lunar quasar (our first caravan) that we recently bought. Got on site to discover that the water pump didn't work. I initially switched the pump electrics on before connecting the pump and the pump running light illuminated even though it wasn't attached. I then switched it off and connected the submersed pump switched it back on, opened the kitchen hot tap and nothing happened. Pump running light never illuminated again (with or without the pump connected). We were connected to a decent EHU so voltage shouldn't have been a problem. Cleaned the contacts on the pump and socket, but still no joy. Also tried fiddling about with the dial on the pressure switch but nothing. On returning home, I've connected up the submersible to a 12v supply and it does operate fine. The handbook suggests checking that it's not a blown fuse, but then doesn't describe where the fuses are located. I found the ECU with breakers for things like the water heater and the fridge, and also a fuse panel for the tow electrics \ lights in one of the seat lockers, but couldn't find anything relating to the pump (tried phoning a lunar servicing place but they couldn't tell me where it could be). Does anyone happen to have any idea where I might find them? Also, the van had been sitting in storage unused for a couple of years, I have read in a couple of places that this can sometimes cause the pressure switch to become stuck (the run light coming on when no pump was connected makes me wonder if this is the problem). I'll try sticking a multimeter on the socket to see if I get a current. If it is indeed the switch, is there anyway to free it, or will it need a new switch? Also, does anybody know of a way to bypass the switch just to check that it is in fact the switch and not a problem with the 12v supply to it? Any advice appreciated.
